Lady Gaga 'Born This Way' Producer 'Blown Away' By Video

Fernando Garibay marvels to MTV News at how Gaga has combined 'the imagery, the dance' and the song's message.

On Monday (February 28), Lady Gaga released the video for "Born This Way." In the Nick Knight-directed clip, she explores a new life form that doesn't judge and certainly doesn't hate. Full of trippy alien-birth scenes, many costume changes and even an appearance by a unicorn, the video is Gaga's "manifesto" on embracing people of all types.

The video — styled by Nicola Formichetti and choreographed by Laurieann Gibson — is essentially a visual representation of Gaga's dance anthem about celebrating our differences. The song was co-produced by Gaga, White Shadow and Fernando Garibay, and Garibay stopped by the MTV News offices on Monday afternoon to talk about the new clip.

"Well, I've seen pieces. We were privy to watching her make the video and stuff, and as we were watching her do the choreography and everything, we were just blown away, of course," he said. "It's amazing. Her talent, I mean, she's so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it's expressed with the song is truly amazing."

Garibay was so "blown away" he reiterated that he was still processing the dark, rainbow-colored clip. "I'm still blown away by it. I saw it this morning and I was like, 'Wow.' "

Gaga seems to push the boundaries with each video, redefining what it means to be a pop star. And according to Garibay, that's just Gaga.

"I can't really speak for her but what I've noticed is, yeah, she's extremely conscious of these things," he explained. "You have to be for that ... level of artistic expression; you really have to know yourself and be confident of the message you're going to portray, and it's very genuine to her."

What did you think of the "Born This Way" video? We want to hear from you in the comments section!

Charlie Sheen on 'Today': 'Two and a Half Men' Will Beg Me to Come Back

In a new interview with Today's Jeff Rossen, Charlie Sheen reacts to CBS' decision to shut down production on Two and a Half Men -- and attempts to explain his public rant against the show's creator Chuck Lorre.

Insisting he's "passionate" and "not angry," the actor says the network was out of line for bringing the show to a halt. In fact, he's convinced they'll be chasing him down to come back.

"It's like everybody thinks I should be begging for my job back, and I'm just gonna forewarn them that it's everybody else that's going to be begging me for their job back," the troubled star says.

Swearing that he's never once shown up to the set drunk or on drugs, Sheen says the network's actions was not justified.

"Didn't CBS have a right to shut your show down?" Ross asked. "They're reading about you partying at all hours of the night, taking drugs, abusing alcohol. It's their show."

"Epic. Epic behavior," Sheen mocked. "No, because after reading about that, then they observe a guy hitting every mark, nailing every line, every joke, with a full house screaming."

In addition to an apology from CBS ("A big one. While licking my feet."), Sheen, who already makes nearly $2 million an episode, says he deserves a raise!

"I am a man of my word, so I will finish the TV show," says Sheen, reportedly the highest-paid actor on television. "I'll even do season 10, but at this point, (because of) psychological distress, oh my God, it's $3 mil an episode, take it or leave it."

"I'm tired of pretending like I'm not special," he continued. "I'm tired of pretending like I'm not bitching -- a total fricking rock star from Mars. And people can't figure me out; they can't process me. I don't expect them to. You can't process me with a normal brain."

Sheen also sat down with ABC's Good Morning America (in a segment that aired today) and discussed his destructive, drug-filled past.

"The last time I took drugs, I probably took more than anybody could survive," he says, while chain-smoking on camera. "The run I was on made Sinatra, Flynn, Jagger, Richards... all of them just look like droopy-eyed armless children." When asked whether he was scared of dying, the actor replies simply, "Dying's for fools!"

Sheen claims he's now completely clean, and he finds his new, drug-free existence to be "perfect." But he did admit that there's one substance he's still using. "I am on a drug... it's called 'Charlie Sheen!'" he says. "It's not available because if you try it once your face will melt off and your children will weep over your exploded body."

Still not tired of talking, Sheen went on TMZ Live on Monday morning to once again share his thoughts on life, addiction and, of course, winning. In the live 45-minute-long Q&A, filmed in his backyard, Sheen dismisses reports that he checked himself into rehab this morning (offering the interview as proof) and once again rips on Men creator Lorre, saying that CBS honcho Les Moonves should have fired him. Charlie also says that he hopes his five kids ask him about his drug use someday so that he can regale them with some "epic" tales. And, last but not least, Sheen has a message for his dad, Martin Sheen: Stop passing judgment and giving me advice, because I'm a grown man!

In a not-so-shocking turn of events, Charlie's longtime publicist Stan Rosenfield resigned just minutes after the TMZ interview concluded. In a statement to TMZ, the publicist said: "I worked with Charlie Sheen for a long time and I care about him very much. However, at this time, I'm unable to work effectively as his publicist and have respectfully resigned." Sheen shot back: "P***y. He's not allowed to quit, so you're fired."

You can hear more gems from Sheen on tomorrow morning's Today on NBC and when the 20/20 special, "Charlie Sheen: In His Own Words," airs on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on ABC.

Jennifer Lopez Latest Celeb To Enlist Fan Feedback On The Net

J. Lo is letting you choose ending of her 'On the Floor' video, joining growing list of stars who have also left decisions to fans.
By James Dinh

Jennifer Lopez is set to drop her dance-tastic video for "On the Floor" in less than a week, and she's letting her fans choose how the Taj Stansberry-directed clip ends. On Thursday, Lopez visited Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show to announce that she'd be giving her fans the option to pick between two 15-to-20-second alternate endings, with the final cut airing during the March 3 "American Idol" broadcast at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

"You get to do what I do," J. Lo said during "On-Air With Ryan Seacrest." "Like, I go in there with my videos and I start editing and picking all the shots I like and the things that I like and what I feel the best kind of feeling for the record is. You guys get to do that. We picked two different ones and we weren't sure."

Lopez joins a list of stars, who have also maintained an interactive relationship with fans in order to get feedback on everything from song selection to tour set lists and promotional appearances.

Katy Perry's "E.T." Single
Back in December, Katy took to Twitter to ask fans what they thought should be the next single off her smash Teenage Dream. Shortly after, the pop star thanked fans for their suggestions, admitting that she agreed with the majority of them. Fast-forward two months as Katy selected the futuristic tune "E.T." as to be the fourth release off her sophomore effort, and adding Kanye West into the mix.

Bon Jovi's Concert Set List
When Bon Jovi teamed up with YouTube for a special concert show last year, the rockers were set on giving fans complete control. Lead singer Jon Bon Jovi recorded a video message, which was appropriately uploaded onto the site, asking fans to send in their song suggestions via text or video entry. And as expected, the group performed signature hits, including "Livin' on a Prayer" and "It's My Life" during the concert event.

Janet Jackson's Tour Dates
Scheduling a tour can be difficult for busy artists, especially when there are so many cities to cover. However, that's not the case with Janet Jackson's upcoming world tour, for which she allowed fans vote on the cities where they'd most like to see her perform. The pop icon eventually selected a slew of dates based on fan submissions and they'll get to hear her perform songs from her greatest-hits album, Number Ones.

Rolling Stone Cover
It's not only stars who request fan feedback: Rolling Stone magazine is letting fans choose 1 of 16 unsigned bands to grace their coveted front cover, they announced last week. Through a tournament-style competition, fans will submit votes until the last two bands are standing. From there, the finalists will compete in an onstage battle of the bands that will determine who gets the cover and a recording contract from Atlantic Records.

Betty White's 'SNL' Facebook Campaign
As Betty White's popularity skyrocketed in recent years, so did the demand for her onscreen appearances, including admirers who wanted her to score a gig on "Saturday Night Live." After an overwhelming Facebook campaign to have the then-88-year-old actress host the late-night sketch comedy show, White finally took the "SNL" stage and gave viewers what they wanted. With the help of White, "SNL" alums like Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph, and musical guest Jay-Z, the show earned its best numbers in more than 18 months.

Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh: Married!

Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh are now husband and wife, just two weeks after his divorce from Camille Grammer was finalized. Congratulations, we think!

The pair exchanged vows during an afternoon ceremony at the Longacre Theater in Manhattan, where he starred in the Tony-winning La Cage aux Folles.

This is the first marriage for Kayte, 29, and the fourth for Kelsey, 55.

Kayte & Kelsey

After 15 days of legal freedom, Kelsey Grammer is spoken for again!

"Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh were married today at a private ceremony for family and friends," the actor's rep said in a statement.

Kelsey, whose split from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Camille Grammer was chronicled all season on that program, is not looking back.

"I've never been happier in my life," Grammer said of his new life with Kayte Walsh, a British flight attendant. "I'm extremely happy."

Following today's ceremony, the newlyweds and guests headed to the reception at the Plaza Hotel, where the festivities will go until 2 a.m.

Somehow we doubt Camille will be in attendance, but that shouldn't stop her from commenting on the event ad nauseam to gain sympathy/publicity.

Oscars Best And Worst Fashions: Experts Weigh In!

MTV News asked a pair of fashion-industry notables to share their choices for the best and worst looks in Oscars history.
By Jocelyn Vena

Miley Cyrus at the 2010 Oscars
Photo: Getty Images

The Academy Awards are just days away and that means that soon enough some of Hollywood's biggest names will be hitting the red carpet while donning some of the most haute couture they can get their hands on. But, before they hit the carpet, MTV News reached out to some fashion-world experts and asked them to weigh in on the event's best and worst looks ever, which the stars perhaps should take note of before they decide on what to wear.

We caught up with fashion-industry maven and People's Revolution founder Kelly Cutrone, as well as Faran Krentcil, digital director at Nylon magazine, who divulged their favorite and least favorite looks from Oscars history.

Best

Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta, 2010:
Both Cutrone and Krentchil agreed that this was a winning look for the star. "On another actress it might have looked a little overdone, but Cameron managed to make the dress look like it was just lying on her bedroom floor, and she grabbed it on her way out of the bath. That's true star power, isn't it?" Krentcil explained.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries Van Noten, 2010:
"I think that it's not that hard to put a beautiful dress on a girl and get away with it, and then there are people who really understand it ... I think that Maggie Gyllenhaal was a great example of that," Cutrone revealed. "Dries was not obvious; it's an inside brand. It's really about beauty and aesthetic."

Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham, 2010:
Cutrone felt that Miley's look bridged the singer/actress from, well, tween star to teen star. She explained, "The truth of the matter is she has gone from a Disney star to a Vanity Fair cover girl and it brought it back to the middle. [She] really shined."

Natalie Portman in Lanvin, 2005:
"This dress was slightly see-through and the color of a gasping sea monster," Krentcil recalled of the outfit. "And its floaty shape and grey-blue-green-purple shimmer made it beyond chic."

Anne Hathaway in Valentino, 2009:
Krentcil didn't have much more to say than "yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes," about why the beaded, white sheath worked so well for this year's Oscars co-host.

Worst

Charlize Theron in Dior, 2010:
"She looked ridiculous and she's so beautiful. She deserved to wear something better," Cutrone noted, adding about the outdated nature of the dress, "It looked like a Gaultier throwback piece, not like Dior. I didn't know Nancy Reagan was working for Dior."

Jennifer Lopez in Giorgio Armani Privé, 2010:
"All those angular pieces, they look bizarre, and I'm hoping that this season we get rid of the asymmetrical art pieces," Cutrone explained about the Gaga-esque style J. Lo wore.

Angelina Jolie, 2000:
Jolie went gothy that year and Krentcil explained that "the whole thing was so Addams Family weird, when she started making out with her brother, we were too distracted to notice."

Gwyneth Paltrow in Alexander McQueen, 2002:
While noting that Paltrow's Ralph Lauren dress in 1999 tops her list for great looks, Krentcil said about her 2002 look, "The thing is, the dress would have worked without the bun hair and the weird chunky necklace — go with a practically bare face and loose, wavy tresses and all of a sudden, everyone would have wondered why they weren't as cool as Gwyneth."

Kate Winslet, 1998:
"Kate Winslet was my favorite actress in high school, so I was really disappointed when she showed up in an Oscar gown that looked like Maria Von Trapp had made it from the Sound of Music curtains," Krentcil explained. "Fortunately, her Yves Saint Laurent dress last year was so amazing, it exonerated this bummer of a gown."

Will it be a regal evening for "The King's Speech"? Can "The Social Network" dial up Oscar gold? Don't miss MTV News' "2011 Oscars Live" at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 27, when we'll be chatting with your favorite Hollywood stars live from the red carpet on MTVNews.com, and stick with us all Oscar night for winners, interviews, photos and more!

'Hall Pass' Leads Friday Box Office

Comedy bags $4.6 million; Nic Cage's 'Drive Angry' flops in ninth place.
By Shawn Adler

Oscar weekend is typically a time for movie insiders to recognize high-brow, dramatic fare. But no matter who takes home the statues Sunday night, it's the raunchy, hilarious team behind flicks like "There's Something About Mary" and "Kingpin" who are taking home the gold.

"Hall Pass," starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis, topped all comers at the Friday-night box office with an estimated $4.6 million from 2,950 screens. If form holds, it will be the first # 1 opening for writing/directing duo Peter and Bobby Farrelly since 2000's "Me, Myself and Irene."

Not far behind in second place, Liam Neeson's "Unknown" managed to punch up nearly $3.9 million from 3,043 screens in its second week of release. Two years after dominating the February box office with "Taken," the secretly badass star should push "Unknown" past $40 million total by the end of the weekend.

While America's love affair with Neeson waxes, however, its relationship with Nicolas Cage may have waned irrevocably. New release "Drive Angry," featuring the Oscar winner turned action star's latest wackadoo performance, was good enough for only $1.6 million and ninth place. The weak opening is the latest in a string of recent flops for Cage, including "Season of the Witch" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice."

In third place, "Just Go With It" starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston pulled in $3.3 million. Rounding out the top five, "Gnomeo and Juliet" and "I Am Number Four" earned $3.16 million and $3.14 million, respectively.

With a new "Director's Fan Cut", out this weekend only, Justin Bieber managed to hold strong at sixth place, as his 3-D concert flick "Never Say Never" scored $2.7 million. The flick's cumulative gross should breeze past $60 million this weekend.

Among Oscar hopefuls, "The King's Speech" (eighth place) continued its impressive run. The presumptive favorite at the Academy Awards brought its total to $108 million with a $1.9 million Friday haul.

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.

To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.

According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.

Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).

The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.

It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.

Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Adam Lambert's 'Whole Lotta Love': The Story Behind The Cover

Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for 'American Idol' rock night.
By Gil Kaufman

Photo: R. Mickshaw/Getty Images/ Fox

Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off Led Zeppelin's 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again."

That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on "American Idol" rock night Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004.

The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album Led Zeppelin II. Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon.

For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997.

Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his "You Need Love," and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune -- which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show "Top of the Pops" in the 1970s and '80s -- has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train's Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane's Addiction.

Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' "American Idol" page, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

In theaters now...

Hall Pass
Short Story:
Owen Wilson
and Jason Sudeikis star as Rick and Fred, two married best friends who catch a fitful case of the seven-year itch. When their wives (played by Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate) have enough of their husbands' restless behavior, they offer them a "hall pass": one week of freedom to pursue other women with no marital consequences. Rick and Fred jump at the chance -- but, unfortunately for the two out-of-touch pals, opportunity isn't exactly knocking at their door.

What They're Saying:
"Hall Pass is a hilariously unnaughty movie; you know exactly where it's going." - Time Out New York

"Hall Pass, a light comedy of horny marital woe from directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly, makes a novel statement about the sex wars: It says that they're essentially over. And that the guys -- in case there was any lingering suspense about it -- have lost." - Entertaiment Weekly

Good For Kids?
It's a crude bromantic comedy about guys chasing girls, so we say: "Llet the kids pass on Hall Pass."

"Drive Angry is a mish-mash of familiar elements, but it's all lashed together with such relentless drive, blunt invention and pitch-black wit that it's hard not to get dragged along by it." - Time Out

"A non-stop riot of gratuitous sex, full-on violence, gory gunfights and explosive car crashes make this fun chase-and-chiller combo a high-energy trash extravaganza." - Radio Times

Good For Kids?
Drive Angry has a fair share of raunchy violence that's far from kid-friendly.

In case you missed...

I Am Number Four
Short Story:
John Smith (Alex Pettyfer) is not your average teen; in fact, one might call him an alien (though he looks human). He is a fugitive on the run, constantly changing his identity to avoid those that will stop at nothing to kill him. Now, tucked away in a small Ohio town, John begins to encounter new life-altering experiences, such as his first love (Dianna Agron), powerful new abilities and a connection to others that share his unique destiny.

What They're Saying:
"Director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) knows his action beats, and he stages some fierce fights in the third act." - Orlando Sentinel

"I Am Number Four is like a good episode of Smallville: You may feel a bit silly watching it if you're past high-school age, but you just might have a good time." - Arizona Republic

Good For Kids?
Action, romance and a cutie-pie lead? We're betting tweens will lap up this supernatural thriller.

UnKnown
Short Story:
When Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson) wakes up from a coma, he discovers that another man (Aidan Quinn) has assumed his identity. Strangely, not even his wife (January Jones) recognizes him. After pleading his case to disbelieving authorities, Martin finds himself alone, tired and on the run from mysterious assassins. It is only after he finds a true ally (Diane Kruger) that Martin begins to uncover secrets to his true identity.

What They're Saying:
"Neeson's always-intelligent screen presence, his nuance and gravitas, help elevate Unknown beyond its preposterous elements." - Associated Press

"We're spun through parking garages, dance clubs and good old-fashioned car chases; Unknown is probably the movie The Tourist wanted to be, if it had a pulse." - Time Out New York

Good For Kids?
Unknown's high-energy suspense sure will keep the kids guessing, but it's probably a bit violent -- and confusing -- for those under 13.

Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son
Short Story:
Martin Lawrence
is back as FBI agent Malcolm Turner and his undercover alter-ego Big Momma in this comedic thriller. When Malcolm's teenage stepson Trent (Brendan T. Jackson) witnesses a murder at an all-girl performing arts school, the two team up as Big Momma and coed Charmaine to crack the case.

What They're Saying:
"The well-established Big Momma combination of cheap and cheesy chuckles, sex-obsessed banter, and slapstick so broad even the biggest of mommas could easily hide behind it." - Radio Times

"It's a marginal improvement on previous outings, if only because Lawrence is slightly lower in the mix." - Total Film

Good For Kids?
Rich in slapstick dialogue, the jokes in Big Momma may be too overwrought with broad humor.

Deadmau5 Brings Dance Music To The 'Masses,' Wolfgang Gartner Says

'He has a major role in the younger generation to this music,' producer/DJ tells MTV News of his collaborator.

It's no secret that 2010 was a pivotal year for electronic dance music here in the States. With deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia becoming household names, the genre's momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Using a conduit of collaboration, artists such as deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) have paired up with various underground acts to further the rapid expansion of the genre.

Perhaps one of the most notable movers and shakers of the year is now-Grammy-Award-nominated producer and DJ Wolfgang Gartner, who recently sat down to chat with MTV News about deadmau5 and dance music's rise to the top.

"He has a major role in the younger generation to this music," Gartner says, "but there have been certain artists that have been instrumental in helping it cross over and reach the mainstream — which I think is a good thing. I think rap artists using dance beats is a great thing. I think it just brings more people towards this music that we all love."

Thanks to several key moments, such as deadmau5 taking the helm as house DJ (well, technically "House Artist") for the 2010 VMAs, dance music has been thrown into the forefront of America's youth, a key demographic for any genre.

"Everybody knows who he is now and he's kind of exposing the masses to dance music. These little five-, six- and seven-year-old kids latch on to this 'mau5head' logo — they get into the music and he's bringing this tiny young generation into this music that probably wouldn't be exposed to it."

Gartner certainly doesn't mind the exposure either. Unless you were living under a rock for the past six months, you probably heard one of this past summer's hottest anthems, "Animal Rights," a collaborative effort brought forth by deadmau5 and Gartner.

"It was interesting because I kind of had a preconceived notion about how he would be to work [with]," said Gartner. "I think our sounds are really similar, so I figured he would work in a similar way to me, but the way that he writes music is actually completely different to me. But he achieves kind of the same sound through a completely different process."

Recorded in deadmau5's favorite Los Angeles studio — that would be rocker Tommy Lee's House — "Animal Rights" is a thumping progressive house anthem that melds Wolfgang's unmistakable harmonics and funk riffs with the driving bass line and wobbly synths that make deadmau5 one of the unique forces in the dance music world.

"[Deadmau5] writes these rich complex chord progressions and he does it by drawing these little bars on a grid, which is just amazing that you can do that and get that result," Gartner goes on to say. "It just proves you don't have to be able to play keyboards to write amazing music."

The two sound pioneers never cease to stop pushing the limits on what they are able to produce. Using drastically difference production approaches, deadmau5 and Gartner had the ability to play off each other's strengths while recording the track.

"I'd say the biggest thing is that I play everything in on a keyboard, like even my drums," says Gartner. "I play everything in live and he draws it in with notes on a mouse, which blew me away because his music is very musical."

What do you think 2011 will hold for deadmau5 and Gartner? Let us know in the comments below!
