Tracy Morgan Takes Leave from '30 Rock' After Kidney Transplant

What would 30 Rock be without funny man Tracy Morgan? In the words of Morgan's character Tracy Jordan, they're a team -- like Batman and Robin, like chicken and the chicken container! So when we say that Morgan is leaving the show to recover from surgery, there's no need to panic -- he'll only be missing a couple episodes. EW reports that Morgan, 42, had a successful kidney transplant on December 10th, and needs some time to recover. He's likely to miss two or three of the show's March episodes.

But how will the writers explain the absence of one of the show's main characters? According to the website, executive producer and star Tina Fey is writing in a nervous breakdown for his character -- caused by "a good thing that's happened to him." Ooh, how much do you want to bet that fictional Tracy is going to win that Golden Globe Award for Hard to Watch? Or better yet -- an Oscar! As long as Tracy comes back quickly, we wouldn't mind seeing more of the other cast members for a few weeks (especially the very handsome and under-used Cheyenne Jackson).

Tracy Morgan was diagnosed four years ago with diabetes, which can lead to kidney failure. One of his onscreen sidekicks, Grizz Chapman, had the same surgery earlier this year.
